Sometimes when my mother went shopping and she could afford to, she would bring home a book. They were very short. The books shown in the top row were 6 pages plus a front and back cover and the books on the bottom row were 8 pages plus a front cover. Later my mom was able to buy me a longer 24 page book.

I loved them all! I would ask my mother to reread every new book until I had it competely memorized down to the page turn. I even "read" one of them to my grandparents and shocked them. Some of these books needed tape to hold them together after the staples fell out from being read so much. But the thing I loved the most about these books was the illustrations.

I lost myself in these illustrations. I would look at every small detail in the world created in these books. My favorite was A Bela Adormecida (Sleeping Beauty). I loved the colors, I loved the outfits, I loved the flowers and I loved the cute animals throughout it. I can still see influences from this book in my work today, especially when it comes to color.
These books are my treasures and I guarded them carefully throughout the years because they mean so much to me.
